Rainforest Diaries: An Immersion Amazon ExperienceAs David Attenborough says, “No one will protect what they don’t care about; and no one will care about what they have not experienced.” What if Virtual Reality (VR) could help viewers experience the Amazon rainforest? What if it could help them understand it in a new way or to care about its continued existence? This was my original inspiration when I filmed this 360 video and multimedia project "Rainforest Diaries." The story idea was to re-create an immersive experience of what it’s like to be in the Amazon rainforest and to take viewers on a hike through the jungle, a place most individuals will not experience in their lifetime. I used 360 video, photos, camera trap images, audio recordings, and journal entires to document three months in three different research stations in Manu National Park, Peru (one of the most biodiverse places on the planet). I aimed to act as a guide, creating a personal connection to a place I want others to experience for themselves. I intended to create a first person and behind-the-scenes look at an uncommon journey.
